De-Clutter = De-Stress

Posted on 14 January 2011 by sie

I have started a full on war with the clutter in our cabin. We both tend to be the type to save stuff -just in case- we  need it one day. Not always a good thing. And then we both have the habit of not storing our mail properly which results in boxes and boxes of opened mail from years ago that need to be sorted. I also have the habit of saving clothes from eons ago, even if they are tattered. Maybe I can use the fabric even if I know I won’t wear it anymore. Do you see how slippery this slope can get? Oh my yes….

So, this past break I started by attacking the boxes of unsorted mail. I hauled out our filing cabinets and got to work. Hours and hours and days later, our mail is pretty much all sorted out. QB can hardly believe it, and is quite interested to see what the cabin looks like once I’m done with everything. Frankly, I’m surprised at the tenacity of my filing this break.

It’s hard to believe we’ve only just pasted the 2 week point in 2011. I’ve been really focusing on getting things in gear. Yeah, I’ve been a little slack on posting, but I’m making sure I prioritize some over-hauling of the status quo before I resume my usual and newly committed routines.

My Yoga practice has been about every other day this past week. I really was pushing myself just from sheer exciting and enjoyment since I started in December, so I figured I needed to ease up for a week. I am making big progress, but I don’t want to push my body too hard…kind of defeats the purpose. I’m not in some yoga asana (pose) race or anything.

Tonight I’m getting back to daily Yoga, and I’m trying not to get *too* immersed in the de-cluttering while I’m working. With 12hr work days, there is little time in between to sleep, eat/make food, do yoga, and spend time with QB. When I get really psyched about something it’s *really* hard for me to pull away…funny that I am so excited about….filing…still. Eh, only a couple of years behind. It just feels soooo good to have everything neatly put away in places it can easily be found/accessed again. :-)

So, how is your 2011 coming along? I’m still doing good on my resolutions with the exception of the confrontation one. Ha. Mainly because there is one person I need to confront. I haven’t really had any other confrontation opportunities outside of QB, so this will be a slower developing resolution.

Here are some gratitude’s for today!

1: I’m grateful KALE. Wegmans has had inconsistent kale supplies lately, so my juice didn’t happen for a few days. I put in a request for them to call my when they got me favorite bagged kale in (Isn’t that nice?!- their customer service is always top notch). They surprisingly called me the next day, and I stocked up on 3 large bags. I enjoyed my wonderful juice on the way to work early this morning, and love looking in my fridge and seeing tons of kale and organic carrots! OMG SO HEALTHY LUTEIN YUM! :-)

2: I’m grateful for filing cabinets, files, and folders. While we are well into the technology age, there is still a need for analogue file keeping. I am glad I have the resources available to me so I can keep records in an easily manageable accessible way.

3: I’m grateful for perspective. Perceptive on life that I have and do not have yet. I’m going through a period of personal growth, and I’m seeing many things differently. I’m lucky to have a wonderful husband to help me on my journey as well as a cool therapist. Good connections with people are priceless.

4: I’m grateful for other bloggie friends! I keep up with all the CR and CR related blogs that I know of, and love reading about other CR’ers. I also keep up with a few vegan blogs, and a blog I call “perspective” because of it’s sobering issues. I’m also on the lookout for some good yoga blogs. I think the blogging world is wonderful, and has allowed me to connect with people in a very modern way! If you have a CR blog I don’t have listed on my CR blogs list to the right, please tell me! And if you have any Yoga blog recommendations, please send them my way!

And just for FUN, here is a picture of our cabin LAST YEAR after one of our big blizzards! WOW! While there was definitely a fun component to that experience, I’m glad we haven’t had a repeat this year….at least so far! LOL. As long as it happens on my break, I’m ok with it.

My Food Plan for January 14, 2011.

I seem to be hungrier lately. I’ve been eating closer to 1500 calories the past few days/week. Unless I change my supper plan, today will be close to that too. All my de-stress efforts have led me to not be super strict on low cals recently. I’m going to slowly work my way back down to my preferred 1200-1400, but currently I have been focusing energy on other things that I have really neglected. Cleaning, organizing, yoga, attitude shifts, greater personal responsibility...this list seems to always be expanding.

I know if I push myself too hard and too fast in all these areas now while expecting perfect CR some things will fall though the crack. But healthy eating and moderate calories are easy enough while I am in the beginning of my retooling phase.

I highly recommend pre-spring-cleaning cleaning to help keep you perked up during these dark winter months. I usually don’t get this burst of energy until my spring-cleaning starts, but I got an early start this year and I’m enjoying it thoroughly!

And if you haven’t heard me say it a million times so far, if you are looking for a good at home (or wherever)  physical exercise program please look into yoga. It’s highly customizable to fit your needs, and it really helps both body AND mind. Seriously. Try it. I’m loving it!
