Today has started the process of changing my medication around. I’m stopping one medication, and starting another, which usually makes me feel icky. During medication changes, I’m glad I have HEALTHY HABITS and a well stocked kitchen. :-) Medication change ups are never the same, and this one is bringing migraine type headaches. I’m only on day one though, and I am slowly stepping down to hopefully mitigate withdrawal side effects. Tomorrow will likely be worse than today….but maybe not. I have no idea….
Anyway, whether you are not feeling well because of some short term illness or some other chronic problem (and all the “fun” things that come with chronic problems), I just want to stress the need for HEALTHY HABITS. I may not be able to exercise when I am ill, but I can pick my food choices. And when I am in the habit of picking healthy things, choosing healthy options WILL be the easiest thing when you don’t feel well – which is usually what you want. Easy and comfortable.
I stuck to the foods today that I really enjoyed, and appealed to my weird appetite. Most of the food I ate was my usual healthy foods that appear on my food list over and over, but I did eat a few things that were more comfort oriented and easy. I know when I feel icky, I want to stick to the easier comfort type foods. And having a really bad headache all day counts as icky.
I started my day with my Hempilicious Berry Sorbet because I LOVE it! I love my ice cream maker too! I think I have used my ice cream maker every day since I bought it. I’ve thought about trying other sorbet type recipes, but I’m still so much in foodie love that I am not ready to move on yet. ;-) Oh, and I always eat my solitary brazil nut while my sorbet is chilling in the ice cream maker. :-)
Then for my next meal I ate my scrambled tofu, but I decided to add some boca ground crumbles just because. I also ate this with roasted asparagus. YUM! Roasted asparagus is a major favorite of mine. Asparagus as a comfort food, who would ever guess?
Then, probably my least healthy comfort food item of the day would be a high fiber light english muffin with ~2T of organic crunchy peanut butter. Eh. Full of AGEs, yes. But this isn’t a daily thing. This falls into my “I’m not perfect” category. But, it was vegan! Haha.
My headache subsided late in the evening, so QB and I went to our favorite grocery store to rummage for some food. He’s been eating a lot of Quorn lately, and he loves it! We also got stuff to make him the ravioli again, but with a different sauce. As we were nearing the end of our gathering, he was looking at the organic candy area and found a vegan chocolate wafer thing. It looked damn good, so I ate 25% of it. Only 45 calories…..but for like 2 little bites! It was very good though. Who says vegans can’t have good candy? :-p
Now we are getting ready to watch the new Alice in Wonderland. I’m going to enjoy my peach & pumpkin chia pudding while we do that, then drink my juice a little later on. OH, and if you are wondering why I have been drinking the ginger juices instead of the beet juices lately, it is because the beets are now really really small but the bunches are still the same price. So, while I LOVE my beet juice, it will probably be a few times a week instead of every day. My beet costs just went up considerably. I suppose beets are going out of season.
I fully expect to wake up tomorrow with a raging headache just like I did today. But, we shall see. My kitchen is stocked, I have food that is easy and healthy, so I can make it though a few bad days without a major disruption in my healthy vegan lifestyle. I’m so accustom to living the way I do, that I don’t have to try hard to be healthy. I just do what I do, and it comes fairly easy now. Temptation isn’t always avoidable, but it’s better managed. So, remember, just keep health a priority and it will be a normal part of your life. Same with begin vegan. It isn’t hard. It’s just a transition from living the way you use to live, just like any other lifestyle change. :-)

Haha – love the multi colored asapargus! Maybe more kids would eat it if green veggies came in hot colors! Hope the HEADACHE is MIA this AM!
