QB’s on the Wood Warpath!

Posted on 15 November 2010 by sie

We are technically late for wood collecting season, and are running a bit behind this year. We have a good amount already split and stacked , but we are still a little too low for comfort. However, QB found a lot of DRY dead and standing dead trees in the woods behind our cabin. During this last work shift, he spent a lot of time making a path sizable for our beater Land Rover so we could easily fetch this ready to burn wood.

Today, my first day off, I got the privilege of joining him in the woods for some trail blazing, wood chucking, chainsawing fun. Ha.

With the chestnuts yesterday, and a little bit of this snack food I bought QB, my calories were a little high yesterday. I think any extra was burned off today! I bought him this snack food made by Bhuja. It was supposed to be a healthy Indian themed snack, but it was way too Americanized. If you are really wanting Indian snack food for whatever reason, just go find the real deal. Conveniently, many Indian snack foods I see are vegan, but they aren’t exactly brimming examples of health food – so keep that stuff as a rare treat. ;-)

Today, I felt good after picking up my meds at my favorite grocery store because I didn’t get my usual carby snacks. I’m trying to change HABITS for my health! Old habits die hard, so I don’t think I can go snack-less, but the definition of a snack can definitely change. :-) I did get a green kombucha, but I didn’t drink it all because it tasted a little off.

Before I list my healthy vegan foods, and a few vegan snacks, I want to show you a picture of the rover in the woods we took before dark settled in. Notice our cabin!! The front is an old old log and chink style, but the back is a farm house style addition that is blue. Yeah, we live in a really patchwork looking cabin. AND I love it! Also, we worked well into the darkness tonight, so now imagine us throwing, chopping, and chainsawing wood down there by the light of the rover headlights. Then we split some after we got back to the cabin. I’m going to feel this tomorrow! Tomorrow is a rest day! Tomorrow is a rain day too, which is why we felt pressured to work even in the dark today.

QB just wants to be prepared. While we were prepared last winter, we were still HAZED by the 3 blizzards last year. It was our FIRST year in the cabin with a wood stove, living on the side of a mountain where 4×4 vehicles are a MUST not just a suggestion, and then we got 3 blizzards. But we made it out the other end, and we still LOVE living here. It’s very different from a city life though, but we like that too. I grew up in a cabin in the woods with a wood burning stove, what can I say. :-D
