a bird in the wind

Posted on 08 September 2010 by sie

have you ever been
a bird on the outside looking in
watching life pass you by
as you sit on the other side
not but a chirp
to say you were here
with just an echo
then it disappears
what is it like in there
without the lingering
coldness in the air
you don’t dare want to stay
yet too afraid to fly away
but the wild around you
never ceases to confuse
and confound you
for each winter wind
is never the same
like some madness
that refuses to be tame
so you sit on the sill
looking in at what
you both love and fear
and think if maybe you had a name
you could fly though the window
to the fire inside
away from the cold and insane
but as your wings dry
you hop on the ledge
and look back at the wild outside
while something inside you cries
for the freedom you realize you shed
when your wings were clipped and bled
taking pause you listen again
to the howling cold winter wind
and now from inside the window you cry
for you realize that even in the cold wild winter wind
you could fly
